Huge home win for Turlock Cal Express

The Turlock Cal Express (6-11) took a much needed win at home against the Ontario Fury (10-9) putting an end to the Fury’s six game winning streak.


An all around team effort by Turlock resulted in a 8-7 victory over the Southern California team who currently sits in third spot in the Western Division. 


Tonight's opening quarter set the tone early for the Cal Express with a goal scored within the first 30 seconds of the match by Luis Brambila (Adrian Pulido). This goal gave Turlock their first lead of the game. 


A few moments later The Cal Express caught the Fury out of positioned and countered. Joaquin Raya scored the second for Turlock off an assist by Martyn Arista ending the first quarter with a two null lead. 


The Fury woke up in the second quarter scoring back to back goals all within the first minute. Jeff Hughes got one in followed by Israel Sesay.


 No more than a minute passed before Anival Echeverria retook the lead for Turlock. This gave the team momentum and ended the first half with a 7-4 after four unanswered goals.


As they entered the final 30 minutes of play, The Ontario Fury tightened up their defense and created more opportunities. Three goals from the Fury in the third tied the game up for the fourth time tonight. 


Frank Tayous goal gave Ontario an equal chance going into the last fifteen but Julio Varela’s goal for Turlock made a big statement by adding extra pressure to the Fury as the time began to run out. 


With a one goal advantage and only three minutes left on the clock, Ontario swapped out their Goalkeeper for a 6th attacker where the Cal Express was able to capitalize twice increasing their lead. 


Jeff Hughes was able to get one last goal in for Ontario but Turlock held on until the end obtaining their 6th win of the season. 


The Cal Express will now travel to Orlando, Florida to visit the Seawolves and close out week 15 of the MASL. Watch the game live on MASLtv.
