HEARTBREAKING OT LOSS AT EL PASO

(TURLOCK, CA., January 25th, 2019)— Friday night’s match against the Coyotes was one that will haunt the Express heavily tonight as they seen what could of been their first win of the season slip right out of their hands after battling an intense 4 quarters, finding a last minute equalizer and falling in OT because of a defensive error to a final score of 8-7 (OT).

The opening 15 minutes of game were a back and forth battle between both MASL teams that resulted in no goals. It wasn’t until the first minute of the second quarter that Matthew Germain found the net for Express giving them an early lead.

What was seen next was a tug a war of goals with El Paso scoring next , Turlock responding back followed by the Coyotes tying the game up 2-2.

The Express was able to calm the game down and draw up some plays that gave them the two opportunities that resulted in goals by Douglas Lima and Jorge Carmona. This took the Express into the 3rd with a 4-2 lead.

The third quarter was dominated by the Coyotes who had 2 unanswered goals before Turlock sneaked one in past their goalkeeper. The final quarter was almost the same as the last encounter between both teams. The Coyotes found their way past Turlock’s defense and extended their lead by 2. Turlock had less than 6 minutes to get back in the game in hopes of different result.

Jorge Carmona gave the Express a breather by tying up the game with a goal off a header in the final minute of the game. Unfortunately a defensive error from Turlock gave the Coyotes the OT win and ended tonight’s game.

Key players for the game were Hugo Puentes who had 4 goals for El Paso and Jorge Carmona who had 3 goals for Turlock.

The final game this weekend will be on Sunday at the State Farm arena as the Express visit the RGV Barracudas. Watch the game live on MASLTV.
