Overtime defeat for Turlock

(TURLOCK, CA. December 02th, 2017)--- Turlock Express (0-5) landed in El Paso, Texas Saturday morning for a regular season match against The Coyotes (4-1) at El Paso Coliseum with tonight’s match being an important one for Turlock who have not been able to get a win in their past 4 games. Although the Express started off strong, things went downhill in the 4th quarter as they trailed 7-3 to El Paso.Turlock however dominated the final minutes of the ending quarter with an extraordinary comeback of 4 unanswered goals with a 6th attacker that pushed the game into Overtime. The Express fought hard and was closing in on what could have been their first win of the season until it was crashed by a golden goal in favor of the Coyotes ending in a 8-7 loss for Turlock.

Tonight’s match started off in Coyote territory with a goal by Daniel Frias who gave the Texas team an early lead in the opening quarter but was cut short a few minutes later by Turlock Express player Adrian “Kiko” Gutierrez who scored the equalizer.

The tied score carried over into Quarter 2 with 2 goals from both MASL teams. Ivan Campos and Matthew Germain had a goal each for Turlock while Christian Gutierrez scored both of the Coyotes goals that resulted in a 3-3 score at Halftime.

The third quarter was not a walk in the park for Turlock as El Paso showed no fear of their opponent and shifted to full offensive keeping the Express in a danger zone the whole 15 minutes of play. A total of 4 goals from the Coyotes were seen but none from Turlock putting them in a tight spot for future error.

With a couple minutes to regroup before the final quarter, Turlock changed their game plan by switching Goalkeeper Santos Arteaga who had a total of 20 blocked shots and putting in a 6th attacker. Such change allowed an extra pair of legs on set plays that would revive Turlock from a 7-3 game to a tied 7-7 match that would spill into Overtime but was just not enough to finalize it for Turlock.

The Express is now headed to face RGV Barracudas to conclude their double header this weekend.  Make sure to follow the Express on all social media platforms to stay connected with the team’s weekly news and game updates. Live Stats for the match can be found at www.maslsoccer.com
