Soles crush the Express

(HERMOSILLO, MX. February 10th, 2018)--- The Turlock Express (2-17) made their way over the border to Hermosillo, Mexico known as the home of the Soles de Sonora (11-6) on Saturday for their scheduled match. This was the Express last road game of the season and unfortunately was not one in their favor as Turlock came eye to eye with the man of the league, Frank Tayou who lead his team to a 16-7 victory.

The opening quarter began with a rapid goal from Frank Tayou from a set play on top of the arc. This early goal would be the first of many for Sonora who took the lead in the first 36 seconds of the game.

After almost 3 minutes of back and forth possession, Matthew Germain came in with the equalizer and put Turlock on the scoreboard. The following play after that would cost Turlock another goal after they cleared the ball out and put Soles on top of the arc once again.

Turlock’s defense would then fail to mark Roberto Escalante who in return would capitalized off the play.  Frank Tayou would then return minutes later for an additional goal that put them up 3-1 over Turlock.

The 2nd quarter were 15 minutes of solid Sonora ball. A total of 5 goals were seen with only one belonging to Turlock. The lack of offensive plays from The Express allowed Sonora to head into their locker rooms with a 7-2 lead.

Express simply ran out of fuel in the remaining 2 quarters with a slow defense that put Goalkeeper Santos Arteaga in difficult situations the last 30 minutes.

Frank Tayou had a total of 5 goals , 2 assists as well as two other Sonora players who each put two in.

Despite Turlock’s unfortunate performance, Jorge Carmona had 3 goals, and Jose Barajas had 2.

Turlock will now conclude the 2017-18 MASL season at home with 3 consecutive home games with the first taking place this friday against the Tacoma Stars. Tickets are available at Turlock Indoor all week.
